Bread and Roses

Behind the Lines values are captured in the phrase ‘bread and roses, rooted in early 20th‑century labour and suffrage movements. The bread is the basics - fair pay, transparent pricing, and the assurance that no one is exploited in the process of delivering our work. The roses are the dignity and appreciation that belong to everyone involved with us: clients, collaborators, staff, and suppliers.

Fairness for us is practical, not abstract. We pay people properly and on time, we seek out and credit original authors, and we work to ensure that value flows back to the people who create it.

When we talk about honesty, we mean the kind that can sometimes sting - saying the hard thing, hearing the hard thing, and doing both with kindness

Integrity, to us means do not saying or doing anything in private that we would be ashamed to have seen or heard in public. That applies to our creative choices, our financial decisions, and the way we talk about the people we work with.

We know we’re not perfect, we’re human and always learning, but these are the principles that shape how we behave, make decisions, and build relationships. When something goes wrong, we aim to own and repair it rather than hide it.
These values are what we’re reaching for, behind the lines and out in the open.
